Faculty Postgraduate Prospectus
The HKU Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong, and is considered to be the premier centre for postgraduate dental education and training globally.
Students enjoy first-class facilities, including state-of-the-art laboratories, comprehensive library services, a Postgraduate Habitat, and assistance provided by dental surgery assistants, dental technicians, dental hygienists, and laboratory technicians. Our teaching staff are international both by origin and academic background, and are highly recognized experts in their domain in the world.
Our taught postgraduate programmes which have an esteemed reputation cover 10 subject areas and lead to Masters degrees and professional Advanced Diplomas which build on the Master of Dental Surgery Degrees. The majority of the programmes fulfil the specialist training requirements of the eight dental specialties of the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.
Apart from offering a limited number of self-financing places in each specialty, some government-funded places might become available in 2019-20. Confirmation on this is awaited. Candidates who are interested in studying the MDS degree in different specialties are advised to apply for admissions to the respective curriculum as soon as possible. Candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria (yet to be announced) for the government-funded places may be offered the opportunity to take up such quotas.
Details of our postgraduate programmes are given on this website. We hope you find the information useful in assisting you to make the decision to further your education and career with us. Interested applicants should contact the relevant Postgraduate Programme Director.
After completing a course, not less than 30 months, candidates can sit for the Membership examination in that specialty, which is held by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh practically every year.
